For the love of hammers.
Money and hammers have a LOT in common — let me explain.
Simply a tool to hold:
(2 minute read).
Yesterday, I made a fool of myself holding a hammer on camera. The 1 minute video is here.
I did this to illustrate that money is simply a neutral tool. Just like a hammer: it can strengthen people and things to help build them up, or - it can just as easily cause destruction and tear those things apart.
I also did this to emphasize that we are separate from the hammer just as we are separate from money. We can't have a relationship with money any better than we can with that hammer, but what we can do is learn how to use it well.
We are in charge:
It's the holder of the tool that chooses how to use it to it's best and highest uses. To do this well - we must accept our responsibility to use it, yet know deeply that we are worth so much more than the tool itself.
Our worth does not equal our net worth. We can master money and not allow it to master us. Don't let that hammer swing you around!
Grounding affirmations to accept our role:
⭐ Some of my favorites are here for reminders about what our identity is not .(click for a quick glance).
⭐I will not allow money to negatively impact my ability to love the people in my life, myself, or God, or to take priority over my relationships with other people, myself, or God. Money is to be used to love and care for people and relationships well.
⭐The balance in my bank account does not indicate that I am a good or bad person.
⭐I am grateful for the money that comes into my life, and I am capable of managing money well.
We can do this:
If we wanted, we could all become skilled at hammering with a little intentionality and practice. The same holds true for stewarding (managing) money. Intentionally prioritizing money behaviors and spending in a way that aligns with our beliefs and values is possible.
YNAB (You Need A Budget) software does a great job of helping us wield our money tool well. I'd love to help you learn how it can work for you too.
